August 2025 Recap: Soulful Parenting Workshop
Parenting in today’s fast-paced world is no easy task. Between work demands, cultural expectations, and raising children in a digital-first environment, many parents find themselves asking: Am I doing enough? Am I doing it right?
In August 2025, Soulful Learning, in collaboration with Wellbeing Buddy, hosted another session in our Parenting Workshop Series in Melbourne. The focus was on soulful parenting and building a safe, supportive community where parents could share openly without judgment. What unfolded was an honest conversation filled with compassion, courage, and connection.
Why Parents Joined the Workshop
The workshop began with introductions and an icebreaker where parents were asked to describe parenting in just one word. The responses set the tone:
- “Patience” – reflecting the daily endurance required in raising children.
- “Transformation” – highlighting how parenting reshapes us as much as it shapes our children.
- “Loving” – a reminder that at its core, parenting is an act of unconditional care.
Parents joined because they were looking for connection, reflection, and validation. Many felt isolated in their parenting journey and wanted practical strategies for balancing modern life.
3 Key Themes from the August Parenting Workshop
1. Self-Compassion as the Foundation of Soulful Parenting
Parenting guilt is real. 94% of mothers and 50% of fathers experience it. Unrealistic societal standards fuel feelings of inadequacy. The workshop reminded parents that striving for perfection is unnecessary and exhausting.
What children need most is presence, not perfection. As Nina from Wellbeing Buddy emphasized, “You cannot give children what you don’t have.” That means nurturing your own wellbeing mentally, emotionally, and physically so you can be there for your children.
2. Modern Parenting Challenges in the 21st Century
The group shared the realities of raising children today:
- Isolation when raising kids without extended family support.
- Cultural identity conflicts for immigrant families balancing tradition with global opportunities.
- Work-life balance struggles juggling career, income, and quality family time.
These aren’t isolated issues. In fact, 66% of parents report feeling isolated, and 79% want more peer connection according to surveys. Community support isn’t a luxury—it’s essential.
3. Redefining “Good Parenting”
Definitions of “good parenting” often come from family traditions, cultural norms, or even social media. For some, it was about discipline; for others, freedom and individuality.
What resonated most: being a “good enough” parent—present, compassionate, and consistent, is more valuable than striving for perfection.
Parenting and Technology: The Digital Dilemma
The role of technology in parenting was one of the hottest topics. Parents asked: How much is too much?
Instead of rejecting technology, the workshop reframed it as an opportunity for learning and creativity. When used intentionally, screens can help children explore, discover, and grow without replacing human connection.
What Parents Took Away
Hearing reflections directly from parents was powerful:
“That we as parents need to be self-compassionate and also show compassion towards other parents who are also on their own parenting journey.”
“I liked hearing about the different cultures… even with different struggles, we are all navigating the same challenges.”
These insights reflect the universal truth: while every family’s journey is unique, the challenges of modern parenting are shared.
Key Takeaways for Parents
- Your presence matters more than perfection. Connection is more powerful than chasing impossible standards.
- Look after yourself first. Self-compassion is the foundation of effective parenting.
- Build your parenting community. No one should feel alone while raising children.

Final Thoughts
Parenting in the 21st century is both challenging and rewarding. While the pressures of work, culture, and technology are real, so are the opportunities to parent with presence, purpose, and compassion.
At Soulful Learning, we believe supporting parents is the first step to raising resilient, happy children. By connecting with like-minded families, reflecting on your own parenting journey, and embracing self-compassion, you give your children the greatest gift: a parent who is fully present.
Because soulful parenting isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being real, connected, and intentional.
